Heartland Harley-Davidson®/Buell® was founded in 1994 by Bob Knoll and Bill Knoll, both Detroit natives, and Harley® enthusiasts. Through the late 1970s and early 1980s, Bob Knoll raced Formula Fords and had some experience road racing sport motorcycles, satisfying his "need for speed", but that changed in 1976 when he bought his first new Harley-Davidson® motorcycle: a Sportster®. Before long, when he wasn't building and racing his own cars, Bob was working with a few Indy car teams in the early '80s. After many years in the airline industry/steel business in the Chicago area, Bob purchased a 1993 FXR. After reviving his motorcycle roots with the new motorcycle, he decided that this is what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.

Soon after, the Knolls pursued a Harley-Davidson® dealership. After looking for a good location for about a year, they acquired a Harley-Davidson® dealership franchise and Heartland Harley-Davidson® opened in 1994 in Burlington, Iowa. The facility operated at 3407 Agency St. for ten years and moved to an expanded location in late 2004 at 117. S. Roosevelt continuing the tradition of offering only the finest machines "made in the U.S.A."

The shop's Blackhawk H.O.G.® Chapter was started under our sponsorship in 1995, and they currently have around 60 members. Working with the local H.O.G.® chapter, Heartland Harley-Davidson® sponsors numerous local rides. We are proud of our Heartland Harley-Davidson® heritage, and its place in the local motorcycling and business communities.
